Participation and development of scientific studies on the correctional population

a) Study of the Health Profile of the Correctional Population in Puerto Rico (2009): This study compiled the most prevalent conditions in a representative sample of 1,205 inmates out of a total of 13,183. This study made it possible to plan health services according to the most prevalent conditions in the population.

b) Categorization Study of the Withdrawal Syndrome of Inmates who enter the Puerto Rico Correctional System (2009 ): This study made it possible to know, objectively, the level of substance withdrawal presented by inmates entering the correctional system. This study allowed the development of an efficient and effective model for the treatment of addictive disorders.

c) Study of Self-Inflicted Harm in Inmates in the Correctional Health System (2010): This study allowed to know the magnitude of the problem in the correctional system of PR and offered management tools.

d) Study: Suicide in the Correctional System of Puerto Rico: 2005-2011 (2013): This study carried out an analysis of the suicides carried out by inmates in the correctional system from 2005 to 2011. This study revealed the common characteristics of the inmates who committed suicide and offered strategies for suicide prevention.
