Our mission is to provide, strengthen and promote the highest quality services to our clients, to satisfy the diverse needs of their communities in keeping with the highest standards, through the use of a integrated model and efficient cost. Our staff has more than 20 years of experience in the administration of health services to disadvantaged populations. It has been put into effect during the existence of our Organization and we are committed to continue providing the best service.

• Knowledge – Our leaders have extensive knowledge about the requirements, administrative aspects and the provision of emergency and urgent services, which will be of great benefit to achieve the goals and objectives that are outlined for the operation of the Emergency Rooms.

• Experience – We have more 20 years of experience in the administration of comprehensive health services, of various levels and scopes (ambulatory, skilled nursing care, extended care, for the management of mental and addictive disorders, hospital care, emergency, urgent care and telemedicine , among others), in multiple locations, that meet the requirements of accrediting agencies and incorporate the most recent practices in the health industry.

The service provided by CHSC during the administration of the PSC included the acquisition, implementation and maintenance of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and applications, as well as license and maintenance costs related to other applications administrative, among others, making the PSC one of the first health organizations on the island to incorporate this technology into all its operations.

In addition, CHSC managed to implement innovative electronic systems to record the medication delivery process and created a medication repackaging center that allowed optimal control of the correct use of medications by the correctional population. Efforts to achieve a cost-effective healthcare system also included digitizing radiology services and incorporating telemedicine into our protocols.

CHSC progressively implemented cost-effective and highly beneficial to the government health care system, which helped the Government of Puerto Rico achieve sustained compliance with the MMHCP and, as a result, manage to close the federal case, after more than thirty (30) years of litigation. Since CHSC began to administer the system, the Federal Court has not imposed additional fines related to health violations.

CHSC promoted and supervised the design and construction of the Correctional Medical Center (CMC), a unique medical facility that sought to increase security, reduce inmate transfers out of the correctional system, and provide specialized care in a safe environment. For the first time in the correctional system, it was possible to offer physiatry, podiatry, maxillofacial surgery, sonography, computerized tomography, and optometry services in the facilities of the Correctional Medical Center, reducing extra-institutional outings for inmates.

In the administration and operation of ambulatory, emergency and urgent services. During the past years our services effectively covered the health needs of around 21,895 lives annually. These lives meant the use of 110,524 encounters for emergency and urgent care (walk-in) for physical, mental and dental medical conditions, in eight emergency rooms and 48 emergency clinics on the island.

In the administration and operation of outpatient and hospital pharmacy services. CHS managed seven (7) pharmacies and one (1) drug repackaging center1, for efficient drug distribution. These pharmacies had the required licenses from the Department of Health and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

In the administration and operation of conventional X-ray, dental, ultrasound and computed tomography services ( CT). During the past years, CHS operated 14 conventional radiology facilities, 23 periapical and panoramic dental radiography units, as well as sonography and computed tomography (CT) services, duly licensed by the Department of Health. In the administration and operations of laboratory services and management of nursing personnel coverage. During For the last 13 years CHS has directed and supervised nursing services provided by more than 464 nurses.

In Physical Medicine services - CHS has extensive experience in providing outpatient services, telenutrition, including minor surgery services, podiatry physiatry, optometry, acupuncture and physical rehabilitation. CHS has experience in the operation of 142 beds for inpatient services for skilled nursing care and extended or long term care at the secondary level.

In the Mental Health services - Offered by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational and recreational therapists, case managers, including outpatient, telepsychiatric, and emergency psychiatric services. These represented a use of 53,000 annual outpatient and telepsychiatry, emergency, and mental health emergency meetings. In addition, we have experience in the administration of extended care services and mental health hospitals (having successfully built, managed and operated a tertiary level psychiatric hospital duly licensed by the Department of Health in Bayamón).

We have extensive experience in the management of Problematic Substance Use Disorders (addictive disorders) both at an outpatient and residential level. We have gained experience in the use of acupuncture for the management of drug withdrawal syndrome and other conditions and we operate 342 beds for extended care and for the management of addictive disorders.

Preventive oral medicine and oral surgery, including maxillofacial surgery. CHSC administered and offered services of oral medicine with 33 dental chairs, in different locations, with the support of the New York University (NYU) / Lutheran Medical Center Dentist Residency Program.

Management of other health services related - our experience in the provision of care includes extensive coordination with other health service providers in the community, such as hospitals, dialysis centers, pre-hospital transport of patients, imaging centers and other specialized ancillary studies of a high level of complexity, as well as specialists and subspecialists, to satisfy any care need of the patients treated.

Quality of the services provided – we have as one of our most important objectives in the operation, to continuously improve the quality of care, treatments and services offered, to obtain the best results (outcomes) in care. These efforts will achieve and maintain the highest levels of user satisfaction who come to the emergency room and expect their immediate health needs to be fully and effectively attended to.
